Eastham is a somewhat small coastal town (i.e. on the ocean, a bay, or inlet) located in the state of Massachusetts. With a population of 5,822 people and two associated neighborhoods, Eastham is the 238th largest community in Massachusetts. Eastham home prices are not only among the most expensive in Massachusetts, but Eastham real estate also consistently ranks among the most expensive in America.Unlike some towns where white-collar or blue-collar occupations dominate the local economy, Eastham is neither predominantly one nor the other. Instead, it has a mixed workforce of both white- and blue-collar jobs. Overall, Eastham is a town of professionals, sales and office workers, and managers. There are especially a lot of people living in Eastham who work in management occupations (11.79%), healthcare (11.38%), and sales jobs (10.53%). Of important note, Eastham is also a town of artists. Eastham has more artists, designers and people working in media than 90% of the communities in America. This concentration of artists helps shape Eastham’s character. Also of interest is that Eastham has more people living here who work in computers and math than 95% of the places in the US. Telecommuters are a relatively large percentage of the workforce: 17.57% of people work from home. While this number may seem small overall, as a fraction of the total workforce it is high relative to the nation. These workers are often telecommuters who work in knowledge-based, white-collar professions. For example, Silicon Valley has large numbers of people who telecommute. Other at-home workers may be self-employed people who operate small businesses out of their homes. Another notable thing is that Eastham is an extremely popular vacation destination. A significant portion of the population is seasonal. During the vacation season, the town experiences a large influx of people who take up residence in second homes they own in the area. As the vacation season ends, the population drops again, leaving behind a substantially quieter and smaller town. Because of many things, Eastham is a very good place for families to consider. With an enviable combination of good schools, low crime, college-educated neighbors who tend to support education because of their own experiences, and a high rate of home ownership in predominantly single-family properties, Eastham really has some of the features that families look for when choosing a good community to raise children. Is Eastham perfect? Of course not, and if you like frenetic nightlife, it will be far from your cup of tea. But overall this is a solid community, with many things to recommend it as a family-friendly place to live. The town is relatively quiet, having a combination of lower population density and few of those groups of people who have a tendency to be noisy. For example, Eastham has relatively fewer families with younger children, and/or college students. Combined, this makes Eastham a pretty quiet place to live overall. If you like quiet, you will probably enjoy it here. Eastham is also nautical, which means that parts of it are somewhat historic and touch the ocean or tidal bodies of water, such as inlets and bays. Such areas are often places that visitors and locals go for waterfront activities or taking in the scenery. Eastham is one of the most well-educated cities in the nation. 48.84% of adults in Eastham have at least a bachelor's degree. Compare that to the average community in America, which has just 21.84% with a bachelor's degree or higher. The per capita income in Eastham in 2022 was $54,053, which is middle income relative to Massachusetts, and wealthy relative to the rest of the US. This equates to an annual income of $216,212 for a family of four. However, Eastham contains both very wealthy and poor people as well. The people who call Eastham home describe themselves as belonging to a variety of racial and ethnic groups. The greatest number of Eastham residents report their race to be White, followed by Black or African-American.
